Chinute Chinute

Created by Koolpinyah Barnes, Chinute Chinute is a large bronze owl structure that stands in Darwin. The sculpture, is a key landmark for pedestrians entering the new Darwin Waterfront development from Smith Street Mall, and marks a sacred site for the local indigenous Larrakia people.

Chinute Chinute is a Larrakia spiritual ancestor who exists within the sacred site known as Stokes Hill adjacent to this walkway. This ancestor manifests itself from time to time as the Tawny Frogmouth and stands as sentinel to the Waterfront area.”  Koolpinyah Barnes
I am a big lover of owls so when my eye caught this piece, I had to share. Its a simple yet lovely sculpture with a spiritual meaning for its background.
